Traineeships are just at your door. Have you ever considered doing an internship in the European Parliament? Applications for traineeships in the European Parliament for 2024-25 are currently open. The European Parliament provides two types of traineeships. Schuman offers traineeships in both the Secretariat and with Members of the European Parliament. The European Parliament selects approximately 800 Schuman trainees each year. This opportunity is offered to both European and non-European students.

An applicant must hold a university degree or diploma. The training will last for 5 months. To apply, you must be at least 18 years old. There is no maximum age limit. These are two different traineeships, and we will explain the prerequisites, advantages, and application process for each Traineeship in the European Parliament. Traineeship Dates

The Traineeship will start on 1st October 2024 and will end on 29th February 2025.

Types of Traineeships in the European Parliament

  1. Schuman traineeships (Traineeships in the Secretariat)
  2. Traineeships with Members of the European Parliament

Traineeships in Schuman traineeships

The Schuman Traineeship can be completed in the Secretariat at one of the European Parliament’s official locations – Brussels, Luxembourg, or Strasbourg – or in its Liaison Offices in the Member States.

It will provide a better grasp of the EU institutions and the European Parliament.

Schuman Traineeships are available in a variety of sectors, including policy, finance, law, multilingualism, administration, infrastructure and logistics, communication, and information technology.

Eligibility Criteria for Schuman traineeships

  • You must be eighteen years old. There is no maximum age limit.
  • Be citizens of a Member State of the European Union or an accession/candidate country.
  • A limited number of traineeships are available for nationals from other countries.
  • You must have completed at least three years of university, such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or have a university credential.

Traineeships with Members of the European Parliament

Members of the European Parliament may provide paid traineeships on the premises of the European Parliament in Brussels (or Strasbourg). Working with the European Parliament can let you learn more about the working procedures of its members.

Eligibility Criteria for Traineeships with Members of the European Parliament

  • You must be 18 years old. There is no maximum age limit.
  • Be citizens of a European Union Member State or a candidate country for admission.
  • Members may provide traineeships to nationals of third nations.
  • You must have completed at least three years of university, such as a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or have a university credential.

Financial Benefits and Support

  • A monthly Grant will be provided to cover the living expenses.
  • A travel allowance of EUR 300 per trainee.

Required Documents

  1. A copy of your university-level diploma.
  2. A copy of a valid passport/identity card.
  3. Please provide a copy of your criminal record issued within the last six months prior to the commencement of your traineeship.

Outcome of the Traineeship- What You Will Learn?

  • You will learn how the EU and the European Parliament operate.
  • Contributing to the Parliament’s everyday work will provide you with a ‘behind the scenes’ look at its operations.
  • You will learn about the EU decision-making process.
  • You will be working with folks from various backgrounds, nationalities, and colleges.
