Visa/Residence Permit Procedures
- When applying for an entry visa for X1 (long-term study) or X2 (short-term study), international students should prepare an admission letter, a yellow sheet of JW201 or JW202 form, a medical report, and other documents at the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in their home country.
- International students must retrieve the admission letter, the yellow page of the JW201 or JW202 form, and additional documentation from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate after requesting an entry visa in order to apply for a residence permit in China after entering the country.
- Visa-free is not permissible for international students.
- Within 24 hours of arriving in China, foreign students must visit the local police station to apply for the Registration Form of Temporary Residence.
- For overseas students living off campus, the International Student Office can provide a Record of Living Off Campus for Tongji International Students, which they need register at the local police station.
- The Registration Form of Temporary Residence (on campus) is available to international students living on campus at the dormitory buildings’ reception.
Duration
The duration of a master’s (2–3) year and a Ph.D. (3–4) year.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-Chinese Nationality and Good Health:
- Applicants must be of nonscience nationality.
- Applicants should be in good health.
- International Student Status:
- The only people who can apply for this scholarship are those who are not Chinese citizens or who have not graduated from a Chinese university.
- Outstanding Academic Performance:
- It is necessary for applicants to have exhibited superior performance in their prior academic endeavors.
- Strong Research Skills:

- Age Limit:

- The minimum age requirement for Ph.D. candidates is under 40.
