SECAI Scholarships were established to assist deserving students wanting to attend Leipzig University or TU Dresden to study AI or a related subject. Artificial intelligence (AI) requires expertise in natural sciences, computer science, engineering, mathematics, social science, law, and application domains such as medicine. The scholarships cover living expenses in Germany, allowing students to focus on their studies, start careers in research, and expand their professional networks.

Academic success is the primary qualification for the fellowship, but it also seeks to encourage diversity and globalisation in artificial intelligence courses. They strongly encourage women in STEM careers to apply. Individual cases are considered, such as when students are escaping violence or experience ongoing persecution or disadvantages in their home countries.
