The Fujii Scholarship: What is it?
A privately funded program, the Fujii Scholarship is intended to assist exceptional self-financed international students from Asia who exhibit strong character, financial need, and academic excellence. The objective is to promote academic development and friendship between Japan and Asian nations.

The 2026 Tokushima University Japan Fujii Scholarship is available for students enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs at Tokushima University.

- For undergraduate and graduate students, up to three years
- For master’s degree candidates, up to two years
- To continue receiving the scholarship, an annual review is necessary.

- Up to 20 new scholars, including continuing scholars, from all qualified universities
Eligible Nationalities
Candidates must be citizens of one of the following Asian nations or regions:
China, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Timor-Leste, Bhutan, Philippines, Brunei, Vietnam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Maldives, Mongolia, Laos, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Cambodia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, South Korea, and
Qualifications for Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled at Tokushima University as a regular student pursuing a degree (research students are not eligible).
- Belong to one of the Asian nations or regions on the list.
- Possess a current “Student” visa for Japan.
- Reach the minimum age by March 31, 2026:
- Undergrads: 25 years of age or younger
- 30-year-olds or younger master’s students
- Doctoral candidates aged 35 or younger
- Show that you have financial need.
- Not get any other scholarships in the fiscal year 2026
- Attend scholarship events and turn in the necessary paperwork.

Documents Required
All documents must be handwritten in Japanese by applicants using a pen or black ink. Among the necessary documents are:
- Application Form (in the format specified)
- 800-character handwritten essay on a given subject
- Your academic advisor’s letter of recommendation
- Consent form for a suggestion
- Consent form for the use of personal data
- Transcript of studies
- Enrollment certificate
- A copy of your residence card (front and back)
- (Suggested but optional) A copy of the JLPT N1 certificate
- (Optional) An overview of a master’s or undergraduate thesis

Procedure for Selection
- Screening of Documents: Mid-November 2025
- Interview (for those who made the short list only): late November 2025
- Results will be announced by the administration of Tokushima University in early December 2025.
Deadline for Applications
- Tokyo University’s Josanjima Campus:
- August 29, 2025, Friday— Submit to the International Affairs Division.
Important Notes
- It is possible to recommend just one Tokushima University student for the 2026 cycle.
- Applications must be filled out by hand and sent to the university.
