The USTC Fellowship program in China provides comprehensive and competitive scholarships to overseas students and researchers. USTC’s goal with these fully supported fellowships is to provide an exceptional environment for study and research. The rapid and consistent development of USTC’s foreign education program is closely related to its outstanding research and teaching style. The institution, dubbed the “cradle of future scientists,” is known for its cutting-edge engineering and science disciplines, as well as its unique management and humanities degrees.
USTC provides fellowships to undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students studying mathematics, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering science, electronics, information, computer science, earth and space sciences, environmental science, and other subjects. For international students, the university offers 94 PhD programs, 115 master’s degrees, and 35 undergraduate programs. All programs provide different degrees of scholarship with varying privileges and perks. The host institution will give the most appropriate scholarship based on each student’s application form.

USTC Fellowship for undergraduate programs are offered in 2 levels.
- Level A offers tuition waivers, medical insurance, a monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB, and lodging subsidies.
- Level B contains tuition fees that have been waived.
USTC Fellowship for master’s programs are offered in 2 levels.
- Level A offers tuition waivers, medical insurance, a monthly stipend of 3,000 RMB, and lodging subsidies.
- Tuition expenses are free at Level B, and a subsidy for teacher or research help will be provided.
USTC Fellowship for doctoral programs are offered in 3 levels.
- Level A offers tuition cost waivers, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend of up to 7,000 RMB.
- Level B offers tuition fee waivers, medical insurance, a monthly stipend of 3,500 RMB, and lodging subsidies.
- Tuition expenses are waived at Level C, and a subsidy for Teaching or Research Assistance will be provided.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants applying:
- They should be citizens of a country other than China. (Across all programs and levels)
- Must have a valid passport. (Across all programs and levels)
- Maintain healthy physical and mental health. (Across all programs and levels)
- Undergraduates must have a high school diploma, master’s programs require a bachelor’s degree, and doctorate programs require a master’s degree.
- Should provide a Pre-Graduation Certificate confirming that they will complete their degrees prior to receiving this grant.
- Undergraduate programs require applicants to be under 30 years old, master’s programs under 35 years old, doctorate programs at level A under 35 years old, and level B under 45 years old.
Second Part
- Undergraduate students must pass a Chinese language course at the new HSK Level 5 or above, while master’s and doctorate students must pass the new HSK Level 4 or higher.
- If they have already received another Chinese scholarship, they are ineligible for an undergraduate scholarship.
- Doctoral programs should not be currently pursuing a PhD from any Chinese university.
- Must show proof of English language proficiency. (Across all programs and levels)

- During the scholarship term, students are not permitted to participate in any other assignments. (Across all programs and levels)
How to Apply for the USTC Fellowship in China
- First, create an account in the USTC Application System.
- Choose the program and fellowship level you want to apply for.
- You can apply for all levels at once, but your application will only be considered for one level.
- Enter all of the information requested in the form.
- Upload all of the required documentation.

- Official photocopies of senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts.
- Pre-graduation Certificate issued by senior high school.
- Photocopies of Certificate of new HSK Level 5 and transcripts.
- Filled Foreigner Physical Examination Form.
- Recommendation letter from senior high school.
- Guardian Statement for under 18 years old candidates.
- Emigrants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan applying as international students must provide an immigration certificate, proof of cancellation of their original Chinese citizenship, a photocopy of their passport pages with customs stamps, and proof of living abroad.
For Masters:
- Photocopy of passport.
- A study or research proposal (min 800 words).

Application Deadline
- The application deadline for undergraduate programs is March 31, 2025.
- The deadline to apply for master’s and doctorate programs is February 15, 2025.
