Benefits
The East-West Centre Graduate Degree Fellowship pays the following funding:

- Full-time graduate tuition and fees as per general tuition charged for post-baccalaureate students at the U.H. at Manoa towards masters or doctoral studies;

- Single-occupancy housing or accommodation in an East-West Centre resident hall.
- Allowance to partially cover food and incidental costs.

- All Graduate Degree Fellowship applicants may be eligible for EWCA Alumni and Foundation fellowships.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for application, candidates must be from one of the following countries:
- United States
- Pacific Region: American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, Northern Marianas, New Zealand, Palau, Solomon Islands, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tokelau, Wallis and Futuna Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

- Southeast Asia includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
- South Asia includes Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
- East Asia: China, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Mongolia, North Korea, South Korea, Russia, and Taiwan

- When applying to the EWC, you must also request admission to the graduate program at UH Manoa.
- A four-year bachelor’s degree from a university accredited in the United States or elsewhere is required.
- Must have completed the final four semesters or six quarters of a bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (4.0=A scale).
- By December 1, 2024, you intend to apply for a graduate program at the University of Hawaii.

- Application acknowledgement receipt or proof of U.H. application submission for prospective students applying for admission.
- According to UH’s statement of aims (see to the academic program for instructions), current UH students who are continuing in their same degree and field are not required to submit this paper.

- Students applying for the Obuchi Student Scholarship should provide a photocopy of their permanent abode in Okinawa or a certificate of residence.

- Official transcripts from each institution or university you attended (submission requirements are provided in the Handbook’s “Academic Transcripts” section).
- If you are not a current University of Hawaii student and need to demonstrate English proficiency, the testing service must provide an official IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo score. Please refer to the Handbook section on “Exams and Score Reports” for more information on how to write your findings.
- Three letters of recommendation emphasize your academic abilities and career objectives, with the third focusing on community service, civic participation, or extracurricular activities. When you submit your online application, your referee will receive a link to the Letter of Reference form.

How To Apply
When applying to the EWC, you should also apply to the graduate department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM).
Candidates must provide the Mandatory documents to the East-West Centre by December 1, 2024. By January 10, 2025, all supporting paperwork for the U.H. application and the East-West Centre must be completed.
