Eligibility Criteria for Bennington College Young Writers Awards
- Students should be in grades 9 through 12.
- Participants may be from outside the United States.
- Applicants may submit three poems, a short story, or a personal or academic nonfiction piece.
You can select one category:
- Poetry: A collection of three poems
- Fiction: A short narrative (no longer than 1,500 words).
- Nonfiction: A personal or academic essay of no more than 1,500 words.
- In each category, a first, second, and third place winner will be determined.
- Candidates should pick and submit in just one category every year.
- Participants should closely adhere to the word counts.
- The word count includes all content, including headings, footers, footnotes, titles, and bibliographies.
- The work submitted must be original and not copied from any source.
- All submitted entries will be verified for plagiarism, and those that are found to be plagiarized will be rejected.
- A high school sponsor teacher must assess and approve your work.
- Homeschooled pupils should seek their mentors to sponsor their projects.
- Every entry must be in English.
