Experienced journalists who want to develop into future leaders are drawn to the World Press Institute Fellowship 2025. Participants in this fully supported fellowship get an in-depth look at American journalistic methods, democratic values, and accountability norms. Fellows will learn more about press freedom and investigate how journalism promotes institutional transparency. Participants will also be able to interact with subject matter experts and gain a deeper understanding of the function of free media in society by travelling throughout the United States.
An equal opportunity program, the WPI Fellowship 2025 is intended for journalists who are driven, dedicated, and enthusiastic about promoting press freedom. There are only ten fellowship spots available, making it a very competitive program designed to give participants the skills they need to succeed in journalism when faced with outside demands and limited resources. The World Press Institute was founded in 1961 and is still committed to advancing the fundamental principles of responsibility, openness, and justice in journalism.

Eligibility Criteria of the World Press Institute Fellowship in USAÂ
- Have at least five years of full-time journalism experience in print, broadcasting, or online media.
- Eligible positions include reporters, photojournalists, columnists, and producers.
- Supervisors qualified if they have at least five years of direct experience in journalism.
- University journalistic experience does not meet the requirement.
- Those in public relations or non-media jobs are ineligible.
- Currently work as a journalist outside the United States.
- Must be fluent in both spoken and written English.
- Demonstrate tremendous leadership potential.
 Sample Requirements in General
- Work samples must be in English and published within the past two years.
- Must provide a publishing date.
- If not in English, please include an English translation.
- It must be publicly available.
Work Sample Requirements For Print Journalists
- In the case of published material, writers and editors must submit three work samples with their bylines.
- Editors must include a statement reflecting their employment description in unpublished work samples.
- Photographers must submit a portfolio with five published work samples.
Requirements for Broadcast Journalists
- Submissions will be limited to 15 minutes of programming.
- Links to work samples from YouTube, Dropbox, and broadcaster websites are accepted.
- Attach an overview of each work in English, explaining your role.
Work Sample Requirements for Online Journalists:
- Submissions are limited to 15 minutes of programming or three print articles.
- Share a link to your online work samples (if appropriate), highlighting your participation in each one.
- Samples should reflect your position as a journalist, with tasks ranging from data collection to content creation and editing.

How to Apply for the World Press Institute FellowshipÂ
- Students must register for an account on the official website in order to apply.
- After registering for an account, you must complete the application.
- Make sure you send in a digital photo of yourself in the jpg, jpeg, or gif format, with a simple background, 2.5 inches in height, and at least 300 dots per inch.
- Include your name and email address along with three samples of your work.
- Carefully fill out the application and send it in.
